The basement rocks
The hard Vishnu Schist and Zoroaster Granite form the Vishnu Group (1750 million years ago). Originally the roots of a volcanic mountain range, these rocks were buried 10 miles below the earth's surface where the resulting heat and pressure twisted and reshaped them.
